Denzel Washington is an American actor with an estimated net worth of $190 million. Born on December 28, 1954 to Denzel Sr. and Lynne Washington, his father was a Pentecostal Minister and his mother owned a salon of her own. He was born and raised in Mount Vernon, and he grew up in a household that was very close. However, his parents made the decision to separate and eventually divorce when he was only 14, changing his life forever. He was not in a place in his life that was going to benefit him at all, and he knew it, too. He knew that the decisions he was making at that age were not the best ones for him, and it took his mother having him with her by herself to make her realize that she had to save her son.

She enrolled Denzel Washington in the Oakland Military Academy, and he’s said more than once that it is was the best thing that ever happened to him. He said once that had it not been for his mother making him attend that school, he would not have survived much longer in his own life. The people he spent his time with back then have spent most of their adult lives in prison, and he felt he might be like that had his mother and that school not saved him. He spent a lot of time at school, and he then decided to play football. He wanted to go to Texas Tech, but he actually got his degree in drama and journalism, and he played basketball there.

By the time the late 1970s rolled around, he knew he wanted to act. He spent time doing a little of this and a little of that, working on plays and productions and moving around until he found something he was looking for. It was in he was given the role of Dr. Philip Chandler on St. Elsewhere on NBC in 1982 that he got his big break. Following that role, he was given more roles. Those roles turned into more roles, and he was finally nominated for an Academy Award in 198 for his role in “Cry Freedom,” and after that, he was on fire. He did not win, but two years later he was nominated again and he did win.

Since, Denzel Washington has been in dozens of hit movies, has been nominated for dozens of awards and has become one of the most famous and most recognizable faces in the world. He married his wife, Pauletta, in 1983 and they have four kids. He spends much of his time working with charities that have been important to him at some point his life. He has been in the business for decades, and most all of his films are high-grossing box office hits that allow him to earn a very significant paycheck. He will continue to make movies as they appeal to him, now that his kids are out of the house and he’s done paying for their schooling, and he will be worth more one day.
