27 year-old actress, Evan Rachel Wood, made her professional acting debut just a little over 20 years ago. In 1994, a young Wood appeared in the made-for-TV movie, In the Best of Families: Marriage, Pride & Madness, which subsequently led to more substantial roles in both film and television. In 1999, Wood landing a starring role on the ABC series, Once and Again; however, her true breakout role came four years later when she starred opposite Nikki Reed in the extremely controversial drama film, Thirteen. Although many people felt that the film’s content was inappropriate, Wood received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture: Drama.

5. Evan Rachel Wood had her first on-screen kiss with Mischa Barton.
From 1999 to 2002, Evan Rachel Wood starred as Jessie Sammler on the ABC series, Once and Again. The show, which focused on the relationship between a single mother and a single father, gave birth to the first lesbian teenage couple on network television. While on the show, Evan Rachel Wood received her first on-screen kiss from none-other-than Mischa Barton, star of the Fox series, The OC. Wood, who is openly bisexual, shared that she initially had no idea that her character in Once and Again would be exploring her sexuality. During an interview, Wood stated: “I started the show when I was about 11. I had a meeting with [show creators] Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick before the third season. I started back up again and they brought it up and said, “You know, we’re thinking about making your character have a crush on a girl.” I, without hesitation, said “Great! I think it’s a great idea!” [Laughs] And my mother was in the room with me as well and she was all up for it, she just wanted to make sure I was comfortable with it. Little did they know, they were so on the nose with me because that was definitely around the age I was very aware of my own sexuality and I just hadn’t really told anyone yet.”

It is not unusual for celebrities to become starstruck over other famous people,and for Evan Rachel Wood, Justin Bieber is the one. In 2011, Wood admitted that she is a Justin Bieber fan. She stated: “I gotta be honest, I went to see Never Say Never as a joke, I went to go make fun of it…hat was the greatest movie I’ve ever seen!” Wood then went on to sing a cover version Bieber’s hit single, “Baby.” Throughout the years, Wood has defended Bieber whose poor decisions have often landed him in trouble. In 2013, Wood stated: “I can’t imagine what it’s like to be him. When you’re a teenager in an adult career, people expect you to be perfect and expect you to never make mistakes or to be a reckless teenager. And then when you are, they give you such a really hard time for it. You have to remind them that you’re still a kid.”
3. Evan Rachel Wood received her high school diploma at 15.
After realizing that she simply did not enjoy the traditional school setting, Wood, who was often the target of bullying, decided to complete her education by home-schooling. Opting to complete her education in a non-traditional way allowed Wood to work at her own pace, which resulted in her earning a high school diploma at just 15 years-old.
2. Even Rachel Wood has a Beatles inspired tattoo.
In 2007, Wood starred as Lucy Carigan in the Beatles themed film, Across the Universe. According to sources, Wood enjoyed taping the film so much that she decided to get a Beatles inspired tattoo. However, Wood has since expressed that he regrets the tattoo and would like to have it removed. During an interview, Wood stated: “It’s supposed to be a strawberry with leaves in the shape of a bird, but everybody says, ‘Is that a ferret sticking out of an apple?'”

Evan Rachel Wood may look sweet and harmless; however, she is fully capable of dishing out some serious pain. According to Wood, she took up Tae Kwan Doe after realizing that she was more a fighter than a ballerina. During an interview, Wood stated: “I have a black belt and used to compete when I was a kid! I did the Junior Olympics…I used to get beat up in school around fifth grade, but it’s funny because I refused to use it when I got beat up. I just thought you weren’t supposed to. But I think once I did. I just did a really crazy kick and everyone was like, “OK, I’m gonna go away now.”
